Studios
- U = Space Studio
- I = Publisher Studio
They sit next to each other under your left hand and spell out the thing they switch. Neither fires while you're typing, so a u in the middle of a sentence stays a u. See Space Studio and Publisher Studio: Basics.
Views & environment
- 1 = Dark Energy refresh
- 2 = 2D
- 3 = 3D
- 4 = Layers refresh
- O = show/hide left panel
- P = show/hide right panel
- T = show/hide text (privacy mode)
- G = show/hide grid
- Drag panel edges to resize left/right panels
- Pop out a node's notes to move them to another screen
Graph basics
- Double-click empty space = add a new node
- Shift or Ctrl+click = multiselect
- Ctrl+drag = box select
With a node selected:
- Alt+drag onto a node = connects
- Alt+click on a node = connects
- Or click the Connect button in the bottom bar, pick a type, then click the target
Changing type
Connectors: select connector(s), click a connector type in the left panel, or click the change-connector-type button in the bottom bar.
Nodes: select a node in the right panel and drag it into a new category, or click the change-node-type button in the bottom bar.
Formatting (Notepad)
- Shift+Enter = create a subtitle line in a node or page title
- Ctrl+Alt+1-3 = headings
- We generally follow a mix of Google Docs and standard markdown shortcuts, plus on-screen buttons.
General
- Click away or press Escape to return to normal from most modes.
Windows shortcuts we lean on (not Filamental-specific, but handy)
- Win+V: paste from clipboard history (use the 3-dot menu to paste values)
- Win+S: screenshot
- Win+R: video capture
- Win+T: text capture from screen
We deliberately avoid reinventing these, your machine already does them well.
Trackpad
- 2-finger pan up/down/left/right
- Drag to rotate
- Pinch to zoom
Mac OS
Filamental runs on macOS, and everything above works there. Where a keyboard shortcut uses Ctrl, Cmd works too, since the app accepts either. The single-key shortcuts (U, I, O, P, T, G, 1-4) are identical on every platform.
The mouse and trackpad gestures are the one exception: Ctrl+drag for marquee select is Ctrl everywhere, Mac included.
