Settings (hamburger icon, top right) is a single draggable panel split into seven categories: General, Account, AI Integrations, UI Themes, Graph Display, Backgrounds, and Shortcuts. This page covers Account, where you see your account tier and status, send feedback or feature suggestions (no guarantees, but we sit down weekly to discuss them), find your licence key after upgrading, and update your version of Filamental (a quick reload, usually under a minute). Every new installation runs on the full Pro version for 15 days, Publisher Studio and all. Nothing is held back during that time and there's nothing to enter or activate, it just runs.
When the 15 days are up, Filamental drops to the free Personal plan and carries on working. Nothing you built is deleted, nothing is locked away, and your files stay exactly where they always were on your disk. What changes is that Publisher Studio stops being editable, so if you were part-way through a document you'll still see it, you just can't keep working on it or publish it without a licence.
If you published a share link during those 15 days, it stays live for its full 180 days. You won't be able to push updates to it any more, but you can still remove it whenever you like. We're not going to leave something of yours online that you can't take down.
At the end of the 15 days we'll ask for your first name and an email address. It's skippable, and skipping it costs you nothing at all. We ask because we'd like to tell you when something significant ships and, once or twice a year, put an offer in front of you. That's the whole deal: you get a genuinely useful piece of software for nothing, and in exchange we get to make our case to you a couple of times a year. If that's not a trade you fancy, skip it and carry on.
Limits: 20 nodes per project, no Publisher Studio (that's document/page publishing, not the graph itself), no user backgrounds. Projects themselves are unlimited, create as many as you like.
Hit the 20-node cap on a project? Insert a bridge node from the Insert menu (bottom bar, +) to jump straight into a new, linked project and keep going. Nothing gets deleted and nothing you've built is lost, it just becomes two projects instead of one crowded one. See Graph for how bridges work.

You get everything: unlimited nodes in every project, the Publisher Studio for turning your work into documents and pages you can actually hand to someone, and user backgrounds. Backgrounds are the biggest bandwidth cost, so in future we may split them into optional packs, but they'll stay free, you'll just choose when to download them.
We use Creem to handle payments and licence issuing: well respected, holds no user data on our behalf, and simplifies account management. We looked at Stripe and Lemon Squeezy too, but Creem are EU-based and slightly cheaper. As few people as possible should hold your payment data, that's the whole philosophy.
We occasionally run offers via YouTube creators, ask them for a code if you want a discount. New version releases sometimes come with a "first 500 installs" discount too, since Microsoft doesn't automatically recognise a new build and we go through a manual recognition process. If you see a better offer than what you're on, you can cancel and re-purchase to get it, you won't lose anything.
Simply go to Creem and cancel, you won't be billed again. All your work stays yours, still on your computer, still readable by (almost) any app, cancelling Filamental doesn't touch your files. You're always welcome back, though a prior discount code won't carry over.
Filamental works locally on your machine, on folders and files it can see. There's no "breaking in" mechanism because there isn't a locked door: it checks your commercial licence is valid and checks for signed updates, that's it. Always download from our site or the app itself. If the machine can see a file, it has access to it, standard access-control rules on your OS/network apply as normal.
A red dot appears on the update button when one's available. The app checks in once a week for app features, licence validation, user notices, and Help Playground resets (not always all of them). Updates are batched and staggered, so if something breaks we can catch it before everyone gets it, feel free to shout at us if that ever happens.
Filamental installs into your personal user folder (AppData\Local) rather than shared Program Files. Deliberate choice: no admin prompt ever, faster silent background updates, and a clean separate installation per user if a machine is shared. Same approach used by VS Code, Slack, Discord, and other apps that update frequently.
Physics/Forces (Gravity, Expansion, Node Spacing, Branch Spread) aren't in Settings at all, they moved to a bottom-bar popover next to Grid since they're live adjustments to the canvas you're watching, not app configuration. See Graph.
