Right Panel

Click a node and the right panel opens it: its notes, its connections, its properties, its attachments and its details, in one column you can rearrange.

Where: Space Studio › right side · Keys: [P], [Tab]

What it is

The right panel is your node's notepad and properties space. Write a short note or a full document, fill in the facts, attach the files behind it. All of it is saved as plain files in your project folder, which an AI can read if you choose, see Connect an AI App.

Select a connector instead and the panel shows that connector's settings. Select a bridge and it shows where the bridge leads. With nothing selected it says No node selected.

How to use it

The top of the panel

  • The title: click it to rename the node. [Enter] saves, and [Shift+Enter] adds a second line as a subtitle. See Nodes.
  • Reorder or hide sections (the sort icon): opens Panel sections, where you move sections up and down and hide the ones you don't use. The layout is saved with the project.
  • Pop out note (the pop-out icon): see below.
  • Type: the node's classification, with its colour. Pick another to reclassify the node. See Classifications.

Each section below folds open and closed, and stays as you left it.

Notes

The page behind the node, written in our notes editor. It saves as you type. See Notes Editor.

Relationships

Every connector touching this node, incoming first.

  • Click the line preview to change that connector's type, in Change Connector.
  • Click the other node's name to go straight to it.
  • Click × to remove the connector, and confirm.

The list says No relationships. until you connect the node. See Connectors.

Properties on a node

Every property your project defines, filled in or not, so it reads as a form. See Properties.

Attachments

Drag files onto this section, or click browse files, to attach them to the node you're viewing, alongside your notes. Filamental asks whether to Copy in or Move in: copy keeps your original where it is, move takes it into your project folder. Click a file to open it in its own app, and × to take it off the node (the file stays on disk).

To make a file a node of its own instead, use Insert file as node. See Insert Menu.

Metadata

Created, Modified, Version, Composition and ID, the node's identity number. Click the ID to copy it.

Pop-out note windows

Click Pop out note to open the node in a window of its own, for a second screen. Up to five can be open at once. While a node is popped out, its notes here are locked (Open in pop-out window. Editing locked here.), and the button reads Focus pop-out window to bring it forward. A pop-out keeps its own undo history. See Undo and Redo.

The connector inspector

Select a connector and the panel shows:

  • Its label, at the top: click it to edit. [Enter] saves, [Shift+Enter] adds a line, [Esc] puts back what was there.
  • Type, Influence and Direction. See Connectors and Arrows, Direction and Pull.

Select several connectors and the panel lists them, with a Type box (Change all…) to retype them together.

Tips

  • Drag the panel's left edge to make it wider or narrower. [P] hides and shows it.
  • A node made from a file shows This node is linked to an attached file. Double-click it on the graph to open the file. in place of notes.

How this helps you

  • Use pop-outs to keep a few reference notes open on one screen while you build on the other.
  • Use Reorder or hide sections to put what you use most at the top, and hide what you never touch.
