Your Licence

Paste your licence key into Activate a licence key and press Activate to turn on Pro on this computer.

Where: Settings › Account · also I have a licence key on the trial-end screen, and Have a licence key? Activate in Settings in the Projects window

What it is

Your licence key tells Filamental this computer is on Pro. We use Creem.io to handle payments and licence issuing: they're well respected, consistent, and it keeps account management simple. As few people as possible should hold your payment data, that's our philosophy.

There's no account and no password: a key, and a first name and email if you leave them, is all we hold.

How to use it

Upgrade. Upgrade to Pro, beside your plan, offers monthly or annual billing and a Discount code (optional), then opens Creem's checkout in your browser. Upgrade in the top bar and Go Pro on any Pro message open our pricing page instead. Both stay in reach until a licence is active, trial included.

Activate.

  1. Find your key in the confirmation email from your purchase.
  2. Open Settings › Account and paste it into Activate a licence key.
  3. Press Activate, or Enter. It needs an internet connection; if the key isn't accepted, the reason shows below.

Your plan then reads Pro, Licence key shows the key (masked but for its last part) with Copy, and Renews shows your renewal date.

Move to another computer.

  1. On the old computer, press Deactivate beside Move to another computer, then Yes, deactivate. That computer goes back to the free plan; your projects don't change.
  2. On the new one, enter the same key under Activate a licence key.

Your details. Beside Offers by email, Register takes a first name and email for our seasonal offers and perks, four times a year at most. Nothing depends on it. Once you're registered, Registered as shows your name and Delete my details removes your name and email from our records, here and on our server. Your projects aren't touched; we can't see or remove them.

Offers and cancelling

We occasionally run offers through YouTube creators: ask them for a code, and enter it when you upgrade. Codes are usually limited.

If you see a better offer than the one you're on, you can cancel and re-purchase to get it. You won't lose anything, and everything stays the same.

To cancel, go to Creem and cancel there; you won't be billed again after the current cycle. Once it ends, your plan reads Expired and the free plan applies. All your work stays yours, still on your computer and still readable by (almost) any app. You're always welcome back, though a previous discount code won't carry over.

Security, and what Filamental sends

Filamental works locally, on folders and files your computer can see. There's no "breaking in" mechanism because there isn't a locked door: a project is an ordinary folder, so your computer's and network's own permissions decide who opens it, and removing access to the folder removes access to the project.

What leaves your computer, and when:

  • Licence check: with Pro active, about every 30 days. If you're offline at the time, Pro carries on.
  • Updates: whether a newer version exists, and Filamental only installs one that carries our signature.
  • Weekly status: your version, operating system and plan, so we can flag a new version or post a notice. Nothing from your projects.
  • Your name and email, only if you register.
  • What you choose to send: a shared link uploads the document you publish, a Pexels search sends its search words, a web link in your notes is fetched for its page title, and AI features go straight to the provider you connected.

Download Filamental from filamental.space and update it from inside the app.

Tips

  • Not valid means the key is no longer accepted. As with Expired, the free plan applies and nothing is deleted.
  • Deactivate while you're online, so the activation is released for the new computer.

How this helps you

  • Use Move to another computer when you replace a laptop, so Pro goes with you.
  • Use Delete my details whenever you'd rather we didn't hold your email.
