What it is
The full key and mouse reference, section by section, as the app lists it. Single-letter keys never fire while you're typing, so a u in the middle of a sentence stays a u. For how moving around feels, see Getting Around.
How to use it
General
- [Ctrl+K]: search. See Top Bar.
- [O] / [P]: show or hide the left and right panels
- [Tab]: move between the left panel, the canvas and the right panel
- [Ctrl+Z] / [Ctrl+Y]: undo and redo, and [Ctrl+Shift+Z] redoes too. See Undo and Redo.
- [Esc]: deselect, and close most menus, modes and windows
- [Ctrl+/]: the list of every shortcut
- In a dialog, [Enter] presses its main button, and [←] [→] move between its buttons.
Studios
- [U]: Space Studio
- [I]: Publisher Studio
- [Y]: Present, which goes straight to full screen
- [Ctrl+Tab]: the other studio, Space or Publisher. It works while you're typing too.
Graph
- [1]: Dark Energy layout
- [2] / [3]: 2D / 3D view
- [4]: Layers layout
- [5]: Group layout
- [Space]: pause or play physics
- [Shift+R]: stop all movement
- [G]: show or hide the grid
- [T]: hide text labels, for privacy when you share your screen
- [F]: frame the selection
- [C]: connect. With two nodes selected it joins them, with one it asks for the other end, and with none it starts connect mode.
- [R]: the route between two nodes. See Pathfinder.
- [Delete]: delete the selection, as one undo step
- Double-click empty space: add a new node
- [Shift] or [Ctrl]+click: multiselect
- [Ctrl]+drag: box select
- Alt-drag from one node to another: connect them
- Alt+click a node: connect the selected node to it
- [1] to [4], while a connector's right-click menu is open: set its direction, in the menu's order (Outgoing, Incoming, Bidirectional, None (association))
In Publisher Studio, [C], [1] and [5] work on the graph as they do here. [4] and [R] are Space Studio only.
Navigation
- Drag: orbit
- Right-drag: pan
- Scroll wheel: zoom
- Pinch: zoom on a trackpad or touchscreen
- [W] [A] [S] [D]: fly through the graph (gaming-style)
- [↑] [↓] [←] [→]: ascend, descend and strafe (professional-style)
- [Q] / [E]: descend / ascend
On a trackpad, pan with two fingers and drag to rotate. Settings › Controls › Fly mode can swap the fly keys' directions.
Presentation
While you're presenting, Filamental answers to these and nothing else. The first four sit together on the bottom row of the keyboard, in the order of the buttons along the bottom.
- [N]: Flow, light running along each connection (Stars, with curved connectors)
- [M]: Breathe, each group drifting out and back (Stars)
- [,] / [.]: slower / faster
- [T]: show or hide the labels
- Scroll wheel or pinch: closer / further
- [Esc]: leave the presentation
More in Present.
Editing
- [Ctrl+Alt+1] to [Ctrl+Alt+3]: heading 1, 2 or 3
- [Shift+Enter]: a subtitle line in a node or page title
The rest of the editing keys follow the usual document shortcuts, alongside the buttons on screen. See Notes Editor.
Tips
- On a Mac, [Cmd] works wherever a shortcut uses [Ctrl], and Alt is the Option key. Box select stays [Ctrl]+drag. The single-key shortcuts are the same on every platform.
- Your computer's own shortcuts work alongside these. On Windows: [Win+V] pastes from clipboard history, [Win+Shift+S] takes a screenshot, [Win+Shift+R] records a video and [Win+Shift+T] copies text from the screen.
- [Esc] in the search box clears it, and [Esc] with a route showing clears the route.
How this helps you
Use it when you're learning Filamental, to find the key for something you do often, or as a cheat sheet: Pop out, in Settings › Controls, puts it in its own window for a second screen.
