Welcome to Filamental

This is where we write things about Filamental. Most of it is useful, some of it anecdotal, and the rest could generously be called musings.

The Help Playground

The help you're reading is a Filamental project of its own, so every page is a node you can move, connect and edit. Filamental opens it on your first run, and Help in the Projects window brings you back.

• It resets with new content on every app update, so don't keep anything of value in here.
• It has no node limit on any plan, and you can't break it (Performance mode steps in if you go really wild, see Settings).
• Search it with [Ctrl+K], or browse the classifications in the left panel.

How the help is organised

Seven maps, each starting from an overview page like this one:

• Welcome to Filamental: you're here.
• Space Studio: where you build, on the canvas and its panels.
• Publisher Studio: turns your project into a document to share.
• Present: fills the screen with your structure.
• Top Bar: projects, undo, search, the studios and Settings.
• AI: Filamental AI, or an AI app you connect.
• Account & Support: plans, your licence and how to reach us.

Where to start

• The Welcome Tour: a short walk round the screen.
• Your First Project: from an empty folder to a shared document.
• How Your Files Are Stored: one folder of Markdown, and what .filamental keeps.
• Working with Obsidian: both apps on one folder.

You don't need to do everything all at once. Filamental can look daunting at first, but it becomes intuitive after a couple of sessions, and every button's tooltip says what it does.

Watching instead of reading

A Watch: line links to a short video of that task, with its running time. The Help Videos card, under Help in the Projects window, opens our YouTube channel.

Not for everyone

Filamental isn't for everyone, we know that, you know that, it's self-selecting. For some people the conceptual thinking just never "clicks", and that's fine, since it works perfectly well as a simple flowchart app with fancy backgrounds too.
